10/08/2011

The Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry has encouraged people affected by the recent flooding in Bundaberg, Maryborough and Gympie to contact its investigators.

Commission staff will soon visit Bundaberg and Maryborough to speak with people who were affected by the 2010/2011 floods.

They will return to Gympie in the coming weeks.

The Commission has encouraged people who may have relevant information to contact its investigators on 0467 722 418.

The investigations are part of preparations for the second round of the Inquiry, which will include public hearings in Brisbane, Emerald, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Gympie and Ipswich.

Regional hearings have been scheduled for:

Emerald 29 September
Bundaberg 10 October (afternoon)
11 October (morning)
Maryborough 12 October
Gympie 13 October

The second round of hearings will examine issues under the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference, with a particular focus on insurance and land planning.

The interim report, focussing on recommendations which can be implemented before next summer's wet season, was given to the Queensland Government on 1 August 2011.

The Inquiry's final report will be provided to the Queensland Government by 24 February 2012.
